Lighting a scene

Bi-colour or RGB

Bi-colour LED lights move between warm tungsten and cool daylight, which covers most interview and product work. RGB lights add full colour for backgrounds and effects.

Output and colour quality

Compare lights at the same distance using the maker's lux figures, and look for a high CRI or TLCI rating so skin tones and products look true on camera.

Stands and safety

Pick a stand rated above the light plus its modifier, and use a sandbag on location. Heavier fixtures need a combo or C-stand rather than a light, compact stand.

What does CRI mean on a video light?

CRI (colour rendering index) shows how faithfully a light renders colours, on a scale up to 100. Ratings of 95 or higher are common for video lights and keep skin tones natural.

Can I power these lights on location?

Many LED panels and COB lights run from V-mount or NP-F batteries as well as mains. The product page lists the power options for each light.
